To fight MAGA, should the Democrats and other opposition groups speak louder on Ukraine in DC and state capitols, with state leaders? Also, should opposition leaders/groups be voicing what they would do as opposed to this current dystopian Trump/Musk/Vance (MTV)reality)? Government serving human needs, not oligarchs; Sustainable environmental practice; absence of war, violence, and exploitation.

Everything you posted is very reasonable...but only to other reasonable people! If you want to "fight" MAGA, you have to convince those who voted for tRump that 1. What he is doing will NOT help them individually and 2. What he is not doing (i.e. taking care of the economy) is going to hurt them, badly.

Egg prices continue to soar. True, he did not start the bird flu, but eliminating workers in the Department of Agriculture will do nothing to address the problem, which tRump and his Master Musk haven't even considered. Meat prices have just begun to soar; how's that for "bringing down food prices immediately"? Unless the Democrats hammer these personal issues, they will continue to be perceived as the Party For the Few (DEI) and nobody will take them seriously.

Kenneth is right. In Iowa and elsewhere, groups are pushing for local hearings and forums on impact of Musk/Trump/Vance (MTV). We push both parties. If federal delegations are all red, or the Democrats do nothing, we are simultaneously pushing opposition groups and state Democrats to hold hearings. For the sake of me, a retired legislator and activist, I don’t get why any group opposed to what is happening in DC would not hold hearings—unless they are too fearful of retaliation.

Very realistic approach. It will take about two years (until the Midterms), but that's the best timeframe under the Constitution. I think you answered your last question: the South African Muskrat has previously threatened to "primary to death" any Republican legislator who dares to oppose His Majesty tRump the First. However, since he would support the absolute worst of the worst MAGA fanatics, grassroots opposition that makes support of a threatened incumbent strong enough could overcome a challenge.

Now, here's the REALLY hard part: such grassroots campaigns will almost certainly be organized by Democrats, even in Republican districts. If there is any chance of attracting Republican voters, the "We hate all MAGA and Republicans" rhetoric will have to be toned down. If the attitude remains that everyone who voted for tRump is a traitor and insurrectionist who automatically loses the right to vote (I have absolutely no idea how that could even happen; it was presented on this site a week or so ago), guess how many Republican "flies" will be attracted to that vitriolic (and patently ridiculous) "vinegar"?

I agree. I have friends who voted for Trump; I would not characterize them as MAGA fanatics. just very right wing conservatives or very libertarian types.

Unfortunately, another commenter in this thread considers them Insurrectionists and would bar them from voting for life!

I know that people want "something" done RIGHT NOW, but unfortunately this is going to take a while. The best hope is that tRump alienates those who voted for him (not the Base; they will never leave) in the wallet.

Once the tariffs kick in and prices go sky-high while jobs are lost, many people are going to find out that they can't eat that silly red hat.

Julie, a good article with sensible, realistic recommendations. I realize the lack of immediate remediation is very frustrating for many on this site, but that's how our government works. I initially (weeks ago) was not receptive to your "not one vote!" approach, but now it does seem appropriate. Since several Republican Representatives have already experienced negative feedback

from constituents at town meetings, lack of future progress on legislation may begin to convince them that lockstep and blind obedience to the King may not be so good for their political health. A government shutdown in particular will raise howls of anguish. Most MAGA probably think that they will be unaffected since they make their "hard-earned money" from the "sweat of their brow"; wait until their jobs are affected by the repercussions of lack of federal funding for innumerable programs.

Unfortunately, most people here probably already live in districts with Democratic representatives so there is little more that can be done to convince them to oppose the current Executive Branch anarchy.

Thank you for not having a paywall like Marc Elias has!! 🙏 I am an 89-year-old activist widow and want to be well informed by someone who is a realist, like you. Paywalls prevent many from being well informed.

Too many are still failing to see the incredible danger our democracy faces. WE ARE NOW VOTING WITH RUSSIA, folks! Sound the alarm!

Aside from the personal impacts on countless families by the mindless government employee and program purges, the new policy of kowtowing to the Soviet Union is the most distressing. Just a few short years ago, the MAGA fanatics hated "commies" almost as much as they hated everyone else! Now, their deity is groveling at the feet of rasPutin, the new Russian Tsar.
