Julie, I'm a fan, and no one opposes Trump more than I do. But the Biden team did this to themselves. It didn't have to be this way. There's nothing worse than hypocrisy. Yes, Trump is the most dishonest and dangerous president we've ever had -- by far. But that doesn't subtract from the fact that Joe Biden and his team deceived their party and the American people for MANY months. In an update to the Mainstream Media post of May 6, Wendy McMahon, the head of CBS News, has just resigned. This follows the resignation of the "60 Minutes" executive producer last month. It's encouraging that she has the integrity and professional courage to leave an organization that is clearly interested only in furthering its financial interests. The network's claimed concern over the "interview lawsuit" is nothing but a smokescreen--it will be thrown out of court at the first hearing--to cover their desperation to receive federal approval for the merger between National Amusements (which owns Paramount, which owns CBS) and something called Skydance Media.

Clearly CBS, which once upon a time was the unquestioned leader in national TV news (anybody remember Edward R Murrow? Walter Cronkite?), is now nothing but a shell to be played with by Hollywood media MBA's.

Ms. McMahon may be staking a lot to preserve her personal integrity; I hope that she is aggressively recruited by reputable media/news organizations...if any are left!

Gaza has entered the chat. Maybe Biden should go to a cancer treatment center in Gaza. Oh....wait. He may have done an excellent job on the economy but Gaza is his legacy - cause everything else the gropenfuehrer will erase.

The treatment of Biden in the media is so removed from reality that one is left wondering about the motives. As you point out, Biden was a good manager of the economy. Biden was faulted for inflation, even though inflation was an international phenomenon due to supply side issues from the pandemic and was going down. Under Trump, inflation is rising again, he's a bad manager of the economy with these ridiculous tariffs, and yet the media mostly doesn't care.

Biden was also addressing the real problem with the economy, increasing inequality of income and wealth, with programs that helped the working and middle classes and poor. With no credit for that from the media. Trump's "big beautiful bill" will take from the middle and working class and poor to give to the rich.

Domestically, add Biden's huge infrastructure bill -- and contrast it with Trump's "infrastructure weeks" that accomplished nothing.

On foreign affairs, I hardly need to articulate the contrast between Biden and Trump on these issues. Specifically on Gaza, let me say, those who believed that Trump was better for Gazans than Biden were deeply deluding themselves.

One fresh point I want to add: the American President has department secretaries and a cadre of advisors for a reason: to make sure the president's policy choices are based on good information and good advice from experts. Biden has an excellent team of advisors.

Of course, it is true that Biden looked, talked and walked like an old person, and that is a problem for a president. But surely for the media one would think Biden's age should just be one factor in a mix that was otherwise overwhelmingly positive for the American people.

All things considered, Biden's place in history will be that he honorably and admirably carried on the work of liberal presidents since 1933. We shall see if Biden is the last of that line of liberal presidents.

Well said and hallelujah. He deserved much better. My favorite president … not the most charismatic by quite a ways but he kept a steady progress and accomplished so much. He cared deeply about doing the right thing with all that responsibility.

A note on Julie's lede about the MSM and Joe Biden:

The four Biden years revealed less about Joe Biden -- alas!-- and more and more about the saclessness and laziness of the MSM. You get more information from foreign media, it would seem, which still have principles on reporting and often do not have to rely on the good graces of advertisers...

We should have been told about Biden's immense efforts to combat the pandemic, to recover the American economy from the abject failure of the Trump admin to deal with the crisis, failure due to the fact that he is uninformed, ignorant, and above all lazy. Biden's legacy, if we do not collapse into a shivering authoritarian heap with the Fascists erasing history, as they are wont to do, will vastly overshadow Trump's... The border business may have been erroneous, but the economy went from disaster to the "BEST IN THE WORLD" according to those who did not have their heads stuck in a part of Trump's anatomy that would make you lose your breakfast..... As usual, the Dems had to clean up a GOP mess, let us not forget that. And Biden did the best job he could, repatriating the chips business, and working on re-industrializing in many areas, notably clean energy, which, for some bizarre reason (ahem.... cf.: oil and coal lobbyists) the far-right hates... I interviewed a very important businessman in Switzerland once, who was all for that kind of policy, the late Mr. Hayek, who was anything but a crazy ecologist or raving socialist.

But this is what we got from US media: "Biden is old, Biden is old, Biden is old, Biden is old, Biden stuttered and said the wrong word, Biden is too old, too old, BidenAfghanistanAfghanistan (it was Trump's deal), INFLATION, INFLATION (no mention of the supply-chain problems, which a child of 10 could figure out) and when the price of eggs went up, for some reason, there was only cursory mention of the bird flu and the culling of immense herds of hens... Why? I don't know.... Channels like CNN seem to be panicked at having to talk of a disease epidemic ever since the Covid19 issue... As if they were afraid of all the conspiracy theorists yelling about Soros, Big Pharma, the Illuminati, masks, Bilderberg, Club of Rome, in short, all the bugaboos that inhabit the nightmares of people who are terrified of the absolute randomness of life on this rock spinning around in infinity.

What the MSM did do is roar daily with 8-head panels about some scammer named Trump, who is apparently ignorant and pathologically self-absorbed, without the slightest need to read and question himself, a man without scruples (like most superrich people, by the way), and a man who is lazy beyond belief, so when he speaks of "hard-working Americans, it sounds really weird... This is empirically provable, in spite of information pretzel-makers like Scott Jennings who inevitably say "what about?" .

Yes, I realize, that the Internet demands daily feeds of stuff to engage our attention.... But quantity is not quality. I literally can't watch clips from the MSM anymore. They all sound like pubescent kids walking through Disneyland and oohing and aaahing at everything they see... Or criticizing because they feel they have to, not because it's really relevant.... Tip for CNN: Whenever some GOP cult member says "Under Joe Biden it was worse..." Or "what about Joe Biden's crime family", ask them: "If that is how you see it, then you agree that it is illegal / bad / criminal," etc... Because WHATABOUTISM and BOTH SIDES are notorious fallacies... But these characters are not in it for the news...

I hope Biden recovers. He is a decent fellow and always remained graceful, even when the MAGA cult was assaulting his every word and his family. The one time he quite rightly called the Trump agenda "semi-fascist" the MAGAs went into a frenzy... Well: They have used the C-word for ages, it's time that we really begin using the F-word. Because I cannot deny that anymore (even though it's F + Disney... I mena, look at Noem, the botoxed face of social Darwinism)...

Back to work.

Thank you, that's kind. I have written at least 50 letters to these folk in the TV world (I grew up without TV, by the way)... wondering why they didn't report on Trump the way they might report on some guy standing on Speaker's Corner in Hyde Park. He literally has NOTHING to offer. There is no intellect there, no concept based on some economic system.... It's all noise, or what his cult members feel is "gut" They shouldn't complain about being called out for ignorance... Have a great day, and thanks for the follow!

Nope. They are saying Biden knew he had cancer way back when he was president but is only now releasing the cancer news to distract the press from Jake Tappers book.

And how or why would the “demented old man” try to bury the book about him being a demented old man when he is retired and very sick? Your guess is as good anyones. Probably because thats what Trump would have done.

What I said all along, was that if Biden did not make it through 4 years, all he had to do was get reelected, and he had a strong vice president to take his place if need be. I am sorry to hear about Biden's health. Clearly he was willing to make sacrifices for the country. Can you imagine if we had had 8 years of Trump in a row what our economy and country would be like without Biden to revive it? Now we may find out, because Trump is doing so much damage so quickly. Canada hates us and I believe other countries do too, whatever their leaders say. A madman does not care, and sane person would.

I think giving the far right 4 yrs to formulate P2025 ended up being worse than having an impeached lame duck with approval ratings in the mid 30s stay in office another 4 years in 2021. But hindsight is 20/20. Who back in 2020 could have imagine this is the way it would have all played out. Joe did the best he could. He is a good man.

Of all of Biden’s political accomplishments it’s his character as a man and human being that stands out to me. He really was a consoler in chief as POTUS because he understood what grief feels like. He was and is a kind and generous man. He’s nothing like the current occupant of the White House. Biden always struck me as a proud man and I hope that the media’s need to humiliate him ends with this diagnosis. I hope he has more time to walk among us. There’s a country song by Tim McGraw called Standing Room Only. The song’s message is wanting there to be standing room only at his funeral when he leaves the earth not because of anything he’d done in his life but because of who he was as a person and the love people felt for him. I think when the day comes for Biden to return to the earth it will be standing room only because of the man he was.

Yes.... A note on Gaza.... whatever he did after, his first admonishment to Bibi, before this abominable war really got started and while Israel and the world were in shock at the horrors of Oct 7., was "Don't make the same mistakes we made..." meaning after 9/11... But Bibi needed to retain power or have his corruption exposed...

And as one French guy said when Napoleon had an aristocrat, the Duc D'Enghien executed: "Worse than a crime, an error."

It's now a detail in the past, buried in the rubble along with thousands upon thousands of people, mostly innocent. It has cost Israel a lot, though.

No President is perfect. No HUMAN is perfect. While I wish Biden had supported Ukraine more vigorously, he was balancing a lot of possible scenarios, and I think he did what he thought was safest for the US. I wish he would have pressured Netanyahu more. Zero humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza for months now! Biden should have stepped down sooner. Okay. I’d still rather have Biden and his cabinet and advisors running our government than trump. I think Biden tried to do what was best for the country, and if Americans didn’t see the results of his administration’s policies soon enough, that still was no reason to vote for trump rather than Harris. Don’t blame Biden for trump winning. Dems were too cautious and that felt like the status quo. Americans didn’t want the status quo. Even though Dems were working for change, it didn’t come fast enough. I’m not sure that’s Biden’s fault.
