I have a [knocks on wood] good feeling about New Jersey because I don't believe we have the kind of "scolding" candidates. Either we get war helicopter hero Mikie Sherill, or we get The Dem Darling of the GOP Josh Gotteimer. They will face tough competition from the host of 101 radio, but they won't scold, neither of them. I guess it could go to Fulop (who himself is pretty smart about messaging, but probably won't win) or Ras Bakara (but it won't).

The other thing about Gen X is the focus on us will be really short, just like it was when we first emerged. Boomers only focused on Gen X for about 5-10 years, before moving on to Melinnials.

The woke stuff is not insulting to me, but it's like being fed a cookie that I don't want at times. I mean its good to have a society like that, everybody is treated well - but I need to satisfy my GenX urge to have the world be chaotic, and esp. when you lose elections to the more chaotic guy.

On Scolding, where it comes for me might be different than others. It's the word FELON. He's a FELON BRUCE!! as if I'm an idiot. I must have heard that twenty nine times. he's a felon, he has no chance. Well, even "felon" needs to be proven in the court of public opinion, cant just be stated. That's the GenXer in me. I have to look and see if my family from Missouri - i don't think so, but show me is big w/ me.

Would you say Gen X is that last big "old school liberal" generation?

Quick note. Nice review of the GenX exegesis. It explains a lot, why, for example, that generation fell for the "burn it all up" policies of Ronald Reagan following the oil crises of the '70s. To this day, I use clod water whenever I can and switch off the lights when I leave a room.

Perhaps the bes line in the above is about no one liking a scold. Exactly. Harris didn't scold, but boy, did the pro-Harris crowd scold in social media.

Always love your take on things Julie. As a longtime moderate R, boomer, we agree on a lot surprisingly. Hoping we all survive the next 4 years and both parties put up credible, respectable candidates next time. Also with the horrendous dissolving of the local press, specifically the Star Ledger, I sincerely hope you and Mike are able to find a welcoming home for friendly fire which is greatly respected throughout NJ.

Interesting take! Although, are you certain that elections will be coming around the way they’ve done all your life? Note how norms and institutions have been eroded and now, even before inauguration, Donald made the next senate R leader commit to being a mere rubber stamp. This means background checks and divestments for cabinet positions are a thing of the past.

Why do you assume there will be any reason to convince you American gen Xers that there is something in the way of minimal economic security in it for you guys — you already voted to give away the social security you mention in this text.

Great interview you gave on CNN the other day.

I’d add that we are (generally speaking) not the coddled generation. Nor are we the generation of woke. Give us merits, and equality of opportunity, and “judged by the contents of your character”. In other words, “classic liberals”.
