Julie, great post with a lot to think about. For example, while i agree with everything you said, if Kamala had been a convicted ax murderer I would have still voted for her over trump. Maybe it is all relative.

Not to be antagonistic, but then you can't complain that people voted for a "convicted felon" when they voted for tRump.

Either it works both ways...or it doesn't work at all.

It's really the whole package with one vs. another, but since Kamala isn't an ax murderer and trump is a felon and proves he is a criminal every single day, it is fair to argue that his followers don't care about his lawlessness and probably have little regard for the law themselves.

Julie, I don't disagree with your assessment of Cuomo and his past actions. But it's ironic that on a recent thread, someone defended him by saying that all he did was aggressively flirt, and that a "strong" woman such as Pelosi would have easily rebuffed it with "No harm, no foul." I strongly disagreed, but I don't recall anyone else weighing in.

As for the "overwhelming" repudiation, I don't see 44/36 as such. Over one-third of NYC Democrats think Andy is "just fine." Should Eric Adams actually run as an Independent, he will siphon off the Black vote. If Cuomo also runs as an I (there was one hint somewhere, but apparently no statement from him), the Democrats could actually end up losing!

It's not so black and white with the Democrats vs Republicans. Unfortunately there are Dems who would rather support a sexual predator like Cuomo than stand up for Mondani, a fair-minded man fighting for all the people of NYC who happens to be a Muslim - one who speaks boldly against Bibi's slaughter of the Palestinian people in his unquenchable greed to takeover Gaza at all cost of life and humanity. They're a sad heartless lot who need to be voted out of office.

In the mid-seventies my eldest brother, related to Nelson Bunker Hunt by marriage, told me the takeover plan which involved the John Birch Society. He knew my thoughts on Women's rights bc I was a tennis player who admired BJKing. I also saw the positive effects of women taking up tennis due to Title IX.

He talked about women acting and looking too manly. To the best of my recollection, I interrupted and he lost it. After his rant, he said something about how women would be punished for their bad behavior. I walked out.

So that's my answer to the question of why Republicans may have no problem with abusers. I admit my opinion comes from this one meeting which I documented soon after Judge Luttig's statement and submitted to the January 6th Committee soon after.

Short answer: they admire bullies.

Why? Because Republican voters (when not simply going full three little monkeys denial) don't see such behaviour as objectionable - they see it as *a worthy role model*.

This is the party for the incels and Christofascists who treat "The Handmaid's Tale" as a blueprint, remember?

I believe its too soon to tell if the Democrats have moved on from Cuomo. He did receive a sizeable percentage of the vote in the primary and he is staying in the race now as an independent. Is that hubris? Maybe, but he also knows how many democrats there are who look down on the DemSoc wing of the party. We'll see what happens in the general.

So he conceded and then restarted as an independent?🙄 Pulling a Lieberman.

I think one of the major reasons both Trump and Cuomo got a second chance at bat is because Americans have a tendency to develop amnesia. Look at Nixon. He left office a disgraced criminal and by the time he died that fact had essentially been forgotten and he was given a going away funeral so glowing you’d think he was the greatest POTUS to ever hold office. Look at an attorney, whose name I won’t mention, that appeared constantly on CNN as a legal analyst. He was caught literally with his pants down at a New Yorker magazine Zoom meeting. He was banished for a time and now all has been forgotten and he’s back on CNN like it never happened. It’s no different with Cuomo or Trump. How many voters in ‘24 were wistful about the good ‘ole days with Trump. Never mind he told Americans to drink bleach during Covid and killed hundreds of thousands of people with his incompetence during it. Amnesia again. Cuomo was the afternoon reassurance at his daily press conferences during the same time so forget the rest of his major character flaws. Americans love the comeback story and we easily forget the past even when we shouldn’t.

So because we have short memories, are gullible and easily distracted and don't spend any time getting historical perspectives on one of the most important issues in our lives and can't tell a sociopath from Jesus, we get the government we deserve.

You would prefer the anti-semitic, Communist, Hamas terrorist supporter Mamdani to Cuomo?

Prove that Mamdani is a Communist. You can't. You make an assumption. (A very bad and racist one )

Spare me the racist slanders. Your accusation is a confession.

As to his communism, I refer you to the platform of the DSA.

His anti-semitism (cloaked as anti-Zionism) and support for Hamas (a designated terrorist organization) are well documented.

He’s an anti-semitic, terrorist supporting, communist liar who will destroy New York City and the Democrats.

George, I agree with you. There is a VAST difference between NYC Jews and, say, Israelis, who actually have to defend themselves with their own actions and not just their bank accounts.

You obviously don't follow sensible Jews on social media.

You have to be incredibly stupid or naive not to see the virulent anti-Semitism that has captured the radical left.

Perhaps you do see it and you're just a liar. Perhaps you’re in denial.

It doesn't really matter. Mamdani is a bald-faced liar. He is a Hamas terrorist supporter. Hamas’ chatter calls for the destruction of Israel, which would involve a second Holocaust.

Talking to you is like talking to a brick wall. So I probably won't waste much more time and energy on you.

But know this. Mamdani is:

-a raging antisemite

-a Communist

-a liar

-totally unqualified

He is not a Democrat. He’s a DSA parasite that has captured the host and will kill it unless Democrats wise up and purge DSA.

All of these may be the exact reasons you support him.

If you are of sound mind, a dubious proposition at best, you will regret supporting him.

Oh boo hoo George. Seems you love yourself a Cuomo corrupt sexual predator. There’s one in the WH that matches your style.

Mamdani is young, decent, smart, and cares. If I was in NYC I would have voted for Mamdani. Take your race baiting and Islamophobia elsewhere. Wall Street shill.

Bet you can’t define Communism. Or socialism.

Why do the Republicans support Trump so much? Why are their brains turning such a blind eye to his many transgressions? If we have the answers to these questions, is it possible to change the way they perceive him? Can we develop a plan? A psychological strategy? I would love to know the answers to these questions. Do you think that ChatGPT can answer them?
