Julie, I just read the Point-Counterpoint (or Friendly Fire) on NJ.com. Entertaining as usual.
One ancillary note: SCOTUS did NOT hear arguments on ending birthright citizenship. They heard arguments in this particular case on whether an individual federal judge has the legal authority to issue a nationwide injunction on a given issue. From NPR (which can't be accused of unfair bias):
"[T]he Trump administration took its case to the Supreme Court on an emergency basis. But instead of asking the court to rule on the legality of Trump's executive order, the administration focused its argument on the power of federal district court judges to do what they did here — rule against the administration on a nationwide basis.
The odd result is that on Thursday the Supreme Court may hear some arguments about birthright citizenship, but most of the debate is likely to focus on what are called "universal" or "nationwide injunctions," like the ones in this case, that have barred the administration from enforcing its birthright policy anywhere in the country while the case proceeds through the appellate process in numerous jurisdictions."
In all likelihood, the court will rule on the injunction alone and let the case play out in the lower court. Hey, why settle an obvious issue now, when the legal profession--on both sides--can rack up tremendous fees litigating it for years?
America did vote for this. With a good helping of vote tossing that handed 47 the election from VP Harris. That couldn’t have happened if the vote wasn’t close.
How many business leaders stepped up to condemn the tariffs before the election? Zero. How many maga small business owners and farmers voted for trump the third time? Almost all of them. How many maga didn’t realize they were the waste, fraud, and abuse from doge? All of them.
magas was warned. They wanted to own the libs and destroyed themselves. They disregard science and logic. They are in a cult. The cult is extracting their pound of flesh.
I agree. Major long term pain is the only answer. A lot of his supporters also rely on the very things republicans are determined to cut too. For some insane reason I’ve never understood Trump has gotten away with the “we” routine as if he’ll go without along with them if the libs take control. He’s never been one of them and he’ll never go without. Obviously delusion runs deep with these people.
It's incredibly ironic that an alleged Republican president who relies on the golf club dues of hyper-rich Republicans who, in turn, make their money via stock dividends (which are corporate profits) is telling companies to reduce their profits! If President Biden had said as much, the R's would have crucified him!
Price increases are possibly the only way to get MAGA's attention away from NASCAR long enough to see how the current president's policies are hurting them.
Just this morning I read an article in The NY Times about the continued ignorance many Americans have about issues the more informed among us discuss daily. These people have a wait and see, lackadaisical attitude towards the tariffs and everything else Trump is doing. Unfortunately it’s going to take some major economic and personal pain for them to wake up and smell the coffee. Blaming Biden for the price of goods is wearing thin and my guess is none of these living in denial Americans have a clue that under Biden we had an economy that was the envy of the world that’s been destroyed under Trump’s stupidity and incompetence. I don’t want to pay higher prices myself but it is imperative that this large swath of the country suffer a whole lot more than they are now to get the picture the rest of us aren’t screaming, hollering, and taking to the streets to protest for no good reason.
Bet you know what Trump can eat.
10 Big Macs followed by a chocolate cake?
We weren’t supposed to absorb the cost of tariffs. 🙄
Boycott!!! The owners, the Walton family, are billionaires who can afford to keep walmart prices the same. I will not support GREED.
