MAGA Is Embracing Hitler — Literally
This is how extremism enters through the side door. Not waving a swastika, but rolling its eyes at anyone who objects at it being waved.
MAGA has finally found a hill it is willing to die on: refusing to say no to Adolf Hitler.
Not endorsing Hitler outright, of course. That would sound bad — at least for the very foreseeable future. Instead, MAGA’s new posture is more subtle and pernicious. It is the rejection of “purity tests” — the insistence that asking anyone in the movement to disavow open antisemitism and to stop praising history’s single greatest genocidal butcher is gauche, divisive, and just a little too woke.
This is how extremism enters through the side door — not waving a swastika, but rolling its eyes at anyone who objects at it being waved. Then, after casing the joint, it opens up the front door for the swastika-attired thugs to jackboot right through in broad daylight.
The scene at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest this weekend looked like a holiday party where everyone pretends not to notice the guy praising the Third Reich because calling him out would “ruin the vibe.” Onstage, Ben Shapiro, one of the movement’s most reliably orthodox figures, did something that now qualifies as radical: he asked his own side to draw a line. He called out fellow MAGA celebrities for amplifying conspiracy theories, indulging antisemitic tropes, and refusing to condemn extremists like Candace Owens and Nick Fuentes.
From the gasps in the room, you would have thought he had suggested raising taxes.
